Final Reflection
This was my first English class at City College.
I had taken English and Writing courses in my high school and expected the same
for this class. It turns out even if the subject is the same, it still is a
college level class. During the few months in the semester, we had to submit
narratives, journals, research papers, and even a blog. The writing compared to
high school was very different and much more rigorous. There was more to write
in much shorter times. At first I could barely keep up with the pace of these
assignments while balancing my other classes at the same time. Soon as I
continue to write papers after papers I eventually got the hang of planning out
my work and getting it done. I also improved on my writing skills and put in
more effort than my essays in high school.
Each assignment helped improve my writing, as
each assignment was more demanding than the previous one. I would use to just
write the bare minimum and just go to the point of the prompt. To me, it only
mattered as long as I answered the question or the topic of the essay my
teacher had given me. However, I could not do the same in college. With
assignments that require more effort and brainstorming such as the exploratory
essay, I had to actually care about my pieces I handed in. I would also use to
write papers without any quotes or evidence in them as this was not a
requirement. Writing my first research paper for college helped improve my
skills as a writer because I learned to put ethos, pathos, and logos into my
work. Since I was also given the option of writing about my own topic, I became
more interested in the papers because I would actually be motivated and enjoy
writing.
